Hello! I'm sorry if the following is deemed to be off-topic, I hope it won't be. I'm coming to Singapore (for a holiday rather than a permanent stay, alas) in a few weeks, and I'd really like some advice:

What are the best places to shop for anime in Singapore? I'm looking for a wide a selection as possible, and if the place had anime-related merchandise as well, that would be really good. Also, is the DVD format in Singapore the same as in Japan and Europe?

Also: any good places to watch anime on the silver screen? I.e. are there any movie theatres that specialise in, or at least frequently feature, anime?

Please bear in mind that I don't know Singapore at all well, so if you do have any tips, I'd really, really appreciate it if you included exact street addresses/area descriptions. Very many thanks in advance!

Aug. 2nd, 2007 @ 11:33 pm D.Grayman & Melody of Oblivion
Oh suckage.. I saw the time change from 12am to 11pm but not the "Wed to Fri" bit.

I missed most of D.Grayman so far, but have caught the first episode and now am watching the second of 'Melody of Oblivion'. Any opinions on either or both of the current titles on Art Central now? I was looking forward to D.Grayman but the story telling seems quite pedestrian and linear, but 'Melody of Oblivion' has been full of surprises so far. Are they going to be worth following?

Aug. 1st, 2007 @ 10:19 pm SMACK! - A charity roadshow for MINDS.
Mmm, gonna go ahead and post this here even though this community seems kinda dead...

SMACK! is basically a charity event for MINDS, featuring live band performances, cosplay('costume' and 'roleplay') and there will also be a on-the-spot manga drawing competition held, with attractive prizes to boot! We'll also be selling a CD with original tracks by our performers, so please show your support and purchase one! All proceeds go to MINDS, so you'll be doing it for a good cause.

Programme of performances.Collapse )

Details
DATE: 5 AUGUST 2007
VENUE:The Plaza @ VivoCity (outdoor space next to Bakerzin)
TIME: 1300-2000 (1pm-8pm)

The performance area will be covered with a tent, so no worries about bad weather. (:

I know this came on quite short notice, so to any cosplayers that intend to come, feel free to reuse an old costume (eg. your Cosfest outfit). Even if you're not interested in cosplay, it wouldn't hurt to just come on down and take a gander at what we'll have going on! It's all for charity, so a little really goes a long way.

If you wish to know more about SMACK! and the group that's behind it, please visit Genuine Act's blog.

Feel free to comment here with any inquiries that you might have too, I'll try my best to answer them.

Current Music: Boondocks intro - Asheru
I sometimes lament the sad fact that this community is pretty much left out of the current ongoings of the Singapore animeblogging communtiy as a whole (esp. since the majority of those blogs are outside Livejournal. Maybe that's the problem)

Anyway, if I have to get to a point:

I don't know if anyone is going to read this, but the entry is put up here for anyone who hadn't noticed. I won't say anything, as opinions on the issue has been better deliberated in the links I've provided, and if anything, the links above are worth reading in full.

However, what I can agree on is that the resort that Odex took was an invasion of privacy, which is, strictly speaking, a bitch move. However, whether Odex will deliver as a result of this has provided mixed reactions.

I hope you are all listening.
